GEOFF HICKS - BIO

Geoff Hicks is an earthy, organic drummer whose style falls in line with the likes of Levon Helm, Steve Jordan and Steve Ferrone. Driven by the music, Geoff humbly and consistently strives to provide exactly what is called for on every song, in any given moment.

Geoff was born in a snow drift in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1972. It wasn’t long after that he started pounding out rhythms on his dad’s Ringo-inspired orange marble Ludwig kit. His father’s vast LP collection provided endless fascination, first turning Geoff onto Coltrane and Roland Kirk and later CSNY and Bowie.

Years later, after moving to Vancouver, Geoff fell in with West Van’s She Stole My Beer, a rollicking, sweaty, southern-rock party band that inexplicably found itself signed to MCA Records in 1995 after tirelessly criss-crossing Canada and the Northern U.S.

Later, Geoff toured Canada with Linda McRae (Spirit Of The West), and then took over the kit for The Paperboys for endless touring of Canada, the U.S., and overseas tours of Germany, Scandinavia, and the U.K. Geoff appears on two Paperboys CDs Dilapidated Beauty, and Tenure.

Since 1995, Geoff has been a busy freelance drummer, touring and recording with Colin James, Barney Bentall, Jim Byrnes, Chad Brownlee, Aaron Pritchett, Jim Cuddy, Alan Doyle, Steven Page, Danny Michel, Harry Manx, Steve Dawson, Bill Henderson, Chilliwack, Ridley Bent, Craig Northey, Dustin Bentall & Kendel Carson, The Sojourners, Coco Love Alcorn, Odds, Neil Osborne, Bocephus King, Ox (Mark Browning), Ben Rogers, Ndidi Onukwulu, Bob Kemmis, Wayne Lavalee, Cameron Latimer, Wendy Bird, Steven Drake, Jesse Valenzuela (Gin Blossoms), Teddy Thompson, and the list goes on.

In 2005 Geoff began performing with Canadian blues/rock legend Colin James. The band has toured Europe, played festivals from Spain to Switzerland, and shared the stage with the likes of Little Richard and Los Lobos. Geoff has completed three successful Canadian tours with James, first in 2006 in support of the Limelight recording, then in 2015 in support of his Hearts On Fire album, and on the 2016/17 Blue Highways tour selling out rooms like Toronto’s venerable Massey Hall, and Vancouver’s Orpheum Theatre. The ongoing Open Road Tour has included appearances opening up for the legendary Buddy Guy and playing at the Beale Street Blues Festival.
